Futuristic North Texas mansion inspired by the film ‘Tron’ lists for $3.69M

Live out your sci-fi dreams in this new-to-market home.

Dallas resident Michael Shaun Jackson took the meaning of “custom” to a new level when he built his 4,853-square-foot home, which was completed in 2020. There’s the spaceship-inspired kitchen, for instance, and living room with Ferrari parking. The three-bedroom, three-and-a-half-bath home is like nothing you’ve seen before — and that’s the whole point.

“When people see things like this, it gets their wheels turning,” Jackson told The News in 2022, when he first listed the property for sale; the home is now back on the market. “It gets them to look beyond the limited thinking and vision that they had before and it starts to expand their mind.”

Jackson is the founder of Acquiesce Design, a design, build and development company (which built the home), and an all-round creative. He designed the home for himself, citing Russian architecture and the film Tron: Legacy as inspiration. He applied his creativity to every facet of the home, including the interior design; much of the furniture is custom, and Jackson even created art specifically for these spaces.

5025 Wateka Drive is located in Greenway Village, a neighborhood near the intersection of Inwood Road and University Boulevard. While the home’s color palette is mostly shades of black, white and gray, don’t expect simplicity. Floors are Italian porcelain, and chandeliers are made of Murano glass. The living room has a two-story ceiling and a floating staircase that leads to the upper level. A few steps into the living room you’ll see one of the home’s most notable features: Ferrari parking. A large window between the living room and the garage makes a car from Jackson’s collection the focal point of the room — it’s visible from the living room sofa.

A futuristic fireplace separates the living room from the dining room and kitchen. On the other side of the fireplace wall, Fendi dining chairs are clustered around a table and a black kitchen — the one inspired by a spaceship in the Tron film — anchors the far end of the room. The sliding glass pocket doors along the dining room and kitchen can be opened and tucked into the walls to create a seamless flow between the indoor and outdoor spaces.

A guest suite and an office are the remaining two rooms on the first level of the home. Upstairs, the primary suite is set off in its own wing. You’ll find a massive bathroom with two sinks, a separate bathtub and shower, and a walk-in closet. The primary bedroom is complete with a fireplace and a modest (modest for this home, at least) bar area. In addition to another bedroom suite, the second floor has a lounge. Designed by Jackson with a 1980s look, the walls are lined in a channel-tufted turquoise velvet, while zebra carpeting runs underfoot.

The home was first listed for sale in 2022 but went off the market for about two years before recently returning. During the off-market period, Jackson made a handful of updates. The outdoor spaces now bear a Tulum-inspired look with new furniture and decor. The primary bedroom was given a refresh with Ferrari-inspired custom bedding designed by Jackson. He also added home security features, including a generator.

Wondering why Jackson would sell something so personal and custom? “I like change [and am] ready for a new adventure,” he says, noting that he plans to relocate to Miami.

The home is listed for $3,690,000 by Lisa Besserer and Pogir of Briggs Freeman Sotheby’s International Realty. Jackson prefers for the furniture and art to stay with the house, for an additional cost. Should a buyer’s car collection lack a stylish model to sit in the frame of that living room window, Jackson will throw in one of his two Ferraris if you add roughly half a million more to your offer.

As for his hope to bring about a different perspective, especially when it comes to the way people live, Jackson points to four new homes on his street. His assessment of the Dallas contemporary architecture scene is that it has “upped its game.”

“My goal was to inspire others to rethink home design to bring it into the future, and it looks like it may have actually worked.”
