Joe Rogan will be slinging jokes for up to 14,000 fans at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth on April 20, the day cannabis is celebrated annually around the world. The timing is, of course, fitting for a guy who once famously convinced billionaire Elon Musk to smoke weed.
A resident of Austin since 2020, Rogan hosts what is, by all measures, the most popular podcast globally, The Joe Rogan Experience. The veteran comedian’s career has had him acting in ‘90s television shows like NewsRadio, hosting stunt-dare game show Fear Factor and color commentating on mixed martial arts for the UFC. His latest comedy special is Strange Times, released by Netflix in 2018.
Earlier this month, hundreds of physicians and scientists called Rogan a “menace to public health” for using his podcast to spread misinformation about COVID-19. In an open letter, they asked Spotify, which hosts the podcast, to take action against falsehoods on its platform.
Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Thursday for Dickies arena mailing list subscribers and at 10 a.m. Friday for the general public.
The performance is a “phone-free experience.” Fans will be required to store their “phones, smart watches, and accessories” in secure pouches before heading to their seats, and anyone seen with a recording device will be removed from Dickies Arena by security.

Correction, Jan. 24 at 10:30 p.m.: A previous version of this article misstated Elon Musk’s name.
