North Texas author Ashley Schumacher will discuss her new young-adult romance novel, The Renaissance of Gwen Hathaway, and sign copies of the book on March 18 at 7 p.m. at Pantego Books in Dalworthington Gardens.
In The Renaissance of Gwen Hathaway, which is due out March 14, the title character works the renaissance fair circuit with her father while grieving her mother’s death and struggling with the monotony of her life. On the final tour stop, she begins to break out of her doldrums when she meets a lute-playing bard who ropes her into becoming the princess of the fair. The coming-of-age tale melds humor and body positivity, with a heroine who learns she doesn’t have to be skinny to love herself or be loved.
Schumacher, who has a degree in creative writing from the University of North Texas, lives in Celina. She is also the author of Amelia Unabridged (2021) and Full Flight (2022).
