Ty Johnson of Grand Prairie made several stops at his local Sonic Drive-In in preparation for the Fletcher's Corny Dog Eating Contest. His two weeks of practicing by eating Sonic's corn dogs paid off. Johnson is the official winner of the eating contest, held July 3 at Frisco's Freedom Fest.
Johnson scarfed down four corny dogs in 3 minutes, but had to participate in a tiebreaker, which brought his grand total to five.

Contestants had to sign a release form, and extra precautions were taken. "We're removing sticks, we have EMS on site, and bottled water so we shouldn't have any issues," said Amber Fletcher of Fletcher's Corny Dogs.
Johnson says he faced some fierce competition, but came out as the top dog. "Down there towards the end, I didn't know if I was going to be able to stay with it. But, just one bite at a time, chew, chew, chew and just go with it," said Johnson. He tried to average four bites per corny dog. His prize: a trophy and some Fletcher's swag.
Fletcher's is attempting to branch out from the one-month opportunity during the State Fair of Texas. The eating contest is one way to get their food brand out across the Metroplex. "We want to bring that crunch that everybody gets at the State Fair to more people," said Fletcher.
The company also has a new mobile concession trailer, so you'll likely see corny dogs for sale outside Fair Park during the month of October.
