Garland police are sending a message: don’t think about celebrating July 4th weekend with illegal fireworks or gunfire.
The department announced on social media that it is prepared to issue fines up to $2,000 for illegal fireworks, and $4,000 and a year of jail time for gunfire.
There will be additional officers on patrol this weekend, and the city has put out signs highlighting the penalties for illegal gunshots and fireworks.
Garland residents who want a sign for their yard can request one at the police department headquarters at 1891 Forest Lane. Signs are available for pick-up daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
“We are looking forward to a safe Independence Day holiday!” the department wrote on Facebook.
“Please celebrate responsibly and be a good neighbor.”
