Rolling Stones postpone Cotton Bowl concert in Dallas

One of the biggest concerts on Dallas’ calendar is a no-go.

One of the biggest concerts on Dallas’ music calendar is being rescheduled as the coronavirus crisis brings the music touring industry to a virtual standstill. It’s the Rolling Stones’ May 29 show at the Cotton Bowl.

Concert promoters behind the Stones’ “No Filter” tour announced Thursday that the entire North American roadshow, of which the Dallas date is a part, would be postponed amid the public health emergency.

The 15-show summer tour was set to begin in San Diego on May 8 and wrap up in Atlanta on July 9. New dates have not yet been set.

“We’re hugely disappointed to have to postpone the tour. We are sorry to all the fans who were looking forward to it as much as we were, but the health and safety of everyone has to take priority,” the Stones said in a statement.

The show was announced last month after officials with Fair Park First and Spectra, the private entertainment company that operates Fair Park, teased big plans for a Cotton Bowl Concert reminiscent of the blowouts the stadium hosted decades ago. For music fans, news of Mick Jagger and Keith Richard’s impending arrival brought back memories of the Texxas Jam, the series of summer rock concerts that ran in the venue from 1978 to 1988. The fact that the Cotton Bowl has seen hardly any major musical acts in the past two decades made the deal even sweeter.

K-pop sensation BTS is still set to perform at the Cotton Bowl on May 9 and 10 as part of their “Map of the Soul” world tour. Although the group canceled performances in South Korea amid the coronavirus crisis, its U.S. tour leg is still on. Their first stop is Santa Clara, Calif., on April 25.
