A vinyl records and comics store is coming to Cedars this fall

Black Cat Records N Comics will open a storefront at 971 Botham Jean Blvd.

A new shop dedicated to comics and records is expected to come to the Cedars neighborhood this fall.

Black Cat Records N Comics, a collaborative effort between Megan Daniel and Guy Steele, will open a storefront at 971 Botham Jean Blvd., Dallas CultureMap reported.

Located near Interstate 30, the store will take over a space that has been empty for more than 20 years.

Comic enthusiasts will be able to choose from new and popular anime and manga comics and works from underground and indie publishers. The music selection will include both new and used vinyl records from niche genres such as exotica, Polynesia, Japanese pop and soundtracks.

“The store will be a unique mix,” Steele told CultureMap. “We’ll have records and comics, with a wide selection for listeners and readers of all ages, but some with a special focus.”

Black Cat plans to be more than just a place for customers to thumb through records and comics. The store will also feature weekly playlists and support local talent with live events featuring bands, DJs and podcasts.

The store has been facing pandemic-related setbacks but hopes to open soon.

“The store has been in the works since before COVID-19,” Steele said. “We know we’ll be a destination for Dallasites but we’re also near the convention center, the Omni Dallas hotel, and there’s not a lot of shopping in that area. We’re hoping we’ll be a fun place to visit.”
