For the first time in years, mega-successful British band Coldplay will return to North Texas. With Music of the Spheres, the Grammy-winning group’s latest album, set to be released on Friday, Oct. 15, Coldplay has unveiled a slew of tour dates that will see it perform at the Cotton Bowl on May 6, 2022.
Their arrival at the Cotton Bowl comes after the Rolling Stones play the stadium on Nov. 2.
The last time Chris Martin and crew performed a concert in D-FW was in August of 2016 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington. It seemed as though that 2016 show would be the last one for a while after the band announced it would not tour again until it could figure out an environmentally sustainable and carbon neutral way to do so.
According to a statement from the band regarding the 2022 tour that will also include a stop at Houston’s NRG Stadium on May 8, 2022, Coldplay remains committed to not harming the environment while it traverses the course of its 30 stops throughout North America, South America and Europe.
In what is surely one of the most ambitiously environmentally conscious plans for a tour ever, each venue will be equipped with solar installations and other renewable power sources including waste cooking oil and a kinetic stadium floor with kinetic bikes powered by fans that will store energy in the first-ever mobile, rechargeable show battery. The band also says that all the shows will be powered by 100% renewable energy, with pledges to cut emissions by 50% from the group’s previous world tour. Coldplay will also plant one tree for every ticket sold.
The band has come a long way since performing at the 3,500-capacity Bronco Bowl in Dallas in 2001. The London-formed group has gone on to sell over 100 million albums worldwide, while collecting seven Grammy trophies.
Tickets for Coldplay’s 2022 “Music of the Spheres” tour go on sale through Ticketmaster on Friday, Oct. 22.
