Dallas singer Matt Hillyer’s ‘Bright Skyline’ is a work of classic Western swing

He’ll perform an album-release concert at the Kessler Theater, with Fort Worth-raised singer Cory Cross opening the show.

The Dallas band Eleven Hundred Springs bid farewell in 2021 after 23 years. But its honky-tonk spirit refuses to die.

On Friday, former Springs singer-guitarist Matt Hillyer releases his latest solo album, Bright Skyline (State Fair Records), a work of classic Western swing (“Honey Do Blues”), revved-up dance tunes (“Green Eyes”) and comic kiss-offs to bad neighbors (“Moving Away”). Hillyer stretches out on the title track, a song driven by foreboding electric guitar.

He’ll perform an album-release concert on Saturday, with Fort Worth-raised singer Cory Cross opening the show. Cross recently released his debut album, There’s More, which bears the influence of another Panther City native, Townes Van Zandt.
