The Bravo! Vail Music Festival, at which the Dallas Symphony Orchestra has performed most summers since 1999, has canceled this year’s activities due to the continuing coronavirus pandemic.
The Colorado festival had booked the DSO for July 1-6 for two classical concerts under guest conductor/violinist Pinchas Zukerman, two pops programs under principal pops conductor Jeff Tyzik and a patriotic July 4 concert. In addition, DSO wind players were to join pianist Anne-Marie McDermott, artistic director of the festival, for a chamber music concert.
The Chamber Orchestra of Europe, which also was to have performed at this summer’s festival, earlier canceled its tour. The New York Philharmonic was to have performed under its music director Jaap van Zweden, who formerly headed the DSO, and the Philadelphia Orchestra was to have rounded out the orchestral offerings. Numerous chamber music concerts were also part of the schedule.
