‘Hamilton’ is coming back to Dallas Summer Musicals

Here’s when you can see it this year, as DSM banks on being able to hold live shows again.

When Dallas Summer Musicals announced its revised 2021-2022 season on Friday, it carried with it a sense of déjà vu. And the déjà vu was all about the Pulitzer Prize-winning Hamilton, which gave DSM the biggest success in its history in the spring of 2019.

Now, as then, DSM is using Hamilton as a lure. Season-ticket holders will have first dibs, giving them a chance to “secure their subscription seats for Hamiltonand to purchase additional tickets for the show, which is booked from Nov. 16 through Dec. 5, 2021.

Such optimism is contingent, of course, on the success of the coronavirus vaccine, which, if enough people get it, should allow Americans to return to a sense of normalcy by the fall. Even government disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci said so in a press conference on Thursday.

Kenneth T. Novice, the president of Dallas Summer Musicals, said Friday that the impact of Hamilton was enormous on Dallas Summer Musicals. For one, he said, it introduced a new audience to the Music Hall at Fair Park, “and if that happens again, that would be a huge win for us.”

Hamilton became the centerpiece of DSM’s new relationship with Broadway Across America, which brings Broadway touring shows to cities across the country. Its alliance with Broadway Across America also led to the end of its competitive relationship with the AT&T Performing Arts Center, ushering in a new era of cooperation between the two. For example, DSM has booked the Tony Award-winning Hadestown as one of the pearls of its revised lineup, and if the show happens as planned, Hadestown will take place at ATTPAC’s Winspear Opera House in January 2022.

Since Hamilton made its transformational debut at Fair Park in the spring of 2019, the show has been seen by millions on the Disney Plus streaming app, where it continues to air.

But for those who prefer to see it live, you can catch it in Dallas in November and December of this year and again at the Bass Performance Hall in Fort Worth from Jan. 18 through Feb. 6 of 2022.

If the virus permits, that is.
