Watch: Edie Brickell and New Bohemians perform on The Tonight Show

Dallas-based band Edie Brickell and New Bohemians recently stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

The musical guests performed their new song, “Stubborn Love,” from their latest album, Hunter and the Dog Star.

In a chat with The Dallas Morning News in February, the Oak Cliff native confirmed that the song, which details an ill-fated love affair, was inspired by her parents’ relationship. Her late father, Eddie Brickell, was a champion bowler.

“I love songs that tell stories … and when I heard what Kyle was playing on piano, I had this very vivid image of my mom and my dad in the bowling alley, and that whole story rolled out,” Brickell said during the interview.

“My mom is a hard-headed, stubborn, passionate woman who’s also one of the most hilarious people you’ll ever meet. [When she heard the song] she said, “Well, you got everything right, except I never kept score because I didn’t understand the math.” I told her, “Mom, it’s kind of a metaphor … females all know how to keep score .... just stay in your lane and you’ll be fine.”

Hunter and the Dog Star, released on Feb. 19, marks Brickell’s fifth album with New Bohemians and the band’s first since 2018′s Rocket. This year also marks the 35th anniversary of New Bohemian’s first record, It’s Like This, which was released in 1986.
