Mesquite-raised Jerry Hall and media titan Rupert Murdoch are getting divorced, according to reports Wednesday.
The New York Times reported that the divorce, Murdoch’s fourth, is not likely to alter the ownership structure of businesses he holds stakes in.
Hall, 65, and Murdoch, 91, wed in March 2016 at a centuries-old mansion in London. At the time, Murdoch tweeted that he would stop posting on Twitter and called himself “the luckiest and happiest man in the world.”
Hall and Murdoch were rumored to be dating and were seen in public together for the first time at a world rugby competition in 2015. They announced their engagement with a listing in Murdoch’s The Times newspaper in 2016.
Born in Gonzales, Hall graduated from North Mesquite High School and moved to Paris as a 16-year-old to pursue a modeling career. She was one of the most photographed supermodels in the 1970s and dated Bryan Ferry, Roxy Music’s lead singer.
Later, she entered a long-term relationship with Mick Jagger, the Rolling Stones frontman. and they went through a marriage ceremony in 1990 that Jagger later argued wasn’t valid.
Hall and Jagger had four kids together and homes in London and France. Jagger tagged along when she returned to North Texas to visit.
Her marriage fell apart in 1999 after Jagger had a child with another woman, she told The Washington Post.
“All of our friends are the same friends, we like the same people,” Hall later said of Jagger. “So we got on great. Except he slept with lots of other people, which was horrible. Otherwise, he was perfect.”
Hall did more than model. She began to build up an acting résumé, appearing in Urban Cowboy (1980), Batman (1989) and on British television. Hall also appeared as Mrs. Robinson in The Graduate in London’s West End theater district.
“I have gone out with younger men and they’re great fun, they’ve got enthusiasm,” Hall told The Washington Post. “Stamina! But I think older men are much better lovers.”
