Adult Night: Ugly Sweater at Legoland Discovery Center

People 18 and older generally aren’t allowed at Legoland Discovery Center unless they are accompanying a minor, but you don’t have to have a child (or even particularly like being around them) to enjoy this recurring adults-only meet-up. For the December event, wear a tacky holiday sweater, compete in build competitions for prizes and explore attractions such as Miniland, an interactive city built from more than 1.5 million bricks. Shake things up by testing your engineering skills on an earthquake table or challenge the center’s Master Model Builder.

Texas Ballet Theater: 'The Nutty Nutcracker’

While this prestigious dance company performs a lavish traditional version of The Nutcracker throughout the holiday season, audiences get but one chance to catch this racy, wacky spinoff. Rated PG-13 and featuring classic heroine Clara, the story soon departs from the usual with references to current events and pop culture, plus off-kilter characters you might recognize from of-the-moment memes or hilarious headlines — think, for example, awkward Super Bowl celeb “Left Shark” gyrating to Tchaikovsky’s original score.

Dec. 20 at 8 p.m. at Bass Performance Hall, 525 Commerce St., Fort Worth. For ages 13 and up. $60-$130. texasballettheater.org.
