Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo
Cowtown’s iconic Stock Show and Rodeo has honored all facets of cowboy culture for 124 years, but this year features a big change. Rodeo events are being held in the new Dickies Arena, which cost $540 million to build and can seat 9,300 during stock show contests such as the ProRodeo Tournament. That event begins this weekend with brackets with more than 400 competitors in eight events, including bull riding, steer wrestling and barrel racing. A million dollars in prize money will be awarded at the Feb. 8 finals. Dickies Arena also has a Fan Zone where ticketholders can meet rodeo competitors and a wine tent called the Corkyard.
Other weekend highlights of the Stock Show are a robotics challenge in the nearby Fort Worth Museum of Science and History, a statewide high school mariachi competition and two mustang events: Mustang Magic Celebrity Freestyle (Jan. 24, $15-$20) and Extreme Mustang Makeover Top 10 Finals (Jan. 25, sold out).
And daily you can go to shop, play and view the animals with a general grounds ticket. Attractions and activities include a carnival and midway, the Children's Barnyard, a petting zoo, pony rides, a Go Texan marketplace, concerts at the Bud Light Roadhouse, and livestock exhibits showcasing award-winning cattle, horses, rabbits and sheep at the Will Rogers Memorial Center.
Through Feb. 8 at the Will Rogers Memorial Center, 3401 W. Lancaster Ave., and Dickies Arena, 1911 Montgomery St., Fort Worth. General grounds admission, which includes access to livestock events, exhibits and the carnival midway: $12, $5 for ages 6-16, free for children 5 and under. Rodeo tickets: $30, which includes admission to the grounds. $15 for parking. fwssr.com.
