Richardson cancels the annual spring Cottonwood Art Festival

But city leaders said the fall version of the festival is still planned.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, Richardson is canceling the spring Cottonwood Art Festival that was set to run May 2-3.

"After significant deliberations, we felt that we had no other choice but to cancel this event as the only right decision under the circumstances," Richardson Mayor Paul Voelker said in a prepared statement. "It is unfortunate, as the Cottonwood Art Festival has been a major part of our community coming together for decades, but it was necessary to ensure that we are not putting thousands of visitors at risk and that we are remaining fully compliant with the guidance provided by federal, state and county officials.”

Richardson officials are notifying sponsors and exhibitors of the decision, according to the announcement.

The event is free so no ticket refunds are necessary, but anyone who planned to travel to the event should contact travel providers for guidance on refund options, the announcement states.
