Christmas events will continue in downtown McKinney despite area COVID-19 surge

Santa, a Christmas carousel and Mistletoe Village are on the city’s holiday calendar.

The city of McKinney is not allowing COVID-19 to put a wrinkle in its Christmas cheer.

A full slate of holiday activities in downtown McKinney is on the calendar, beginning the weekend after Thanksgiving.

  • The “Christmas Carousel” will begin running Nov. 27 at reduced capacity; horses will be sanitized after each ride.
  • Visits with Santa, including a letter-writing station, will be available starting Nov. 28. Pictures with St. Nick can also be taken, with social distancing protocols in place.
  • Mistletoe Market will take place Nov. 29, featuring local artist booths, handcrafted gifts and a kids' “Creation Station.”
  • Saturday Storytime, presented by McKinney Public Libraries, starts Nov. 28 and runs every Saturday through Dec. 19. The free reading events also come with snacks and cocoa served in a socially distanced manner.
