Hunting for a job paying $100,000? Median pay exceeds that at these 26 D-FW companies

Companies representing the energy, real estate and finance industries reported paying the highest median salaries to their workers.

If you’re in search of a six-figure salary, here are 26 Dallas-Fort Worth companies to put on your list.

The salary data is drawn from The Dallas Morning News’ annual analysis of executive compensation at the region’s 100 largest public companies. Median pay, as reported in company proxy statements, is required to be disclosed to allow for comparisons with how companies compensate their chief executives.

Unsurprisingly, oil and gas is the sector most represented in this year’s roster of companies paying a median of $100,000 or more. Thirteen of the 26 were energy-related.

Jobs in oil and gas are typically demanding, dangerous or highly skilled. Restructuring in the energy market last year following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine also caused an oil boom, making those coveted jobs even more in-demand than before.

Harvard Business Review also notes that labor costs as a percentage of operating expenses are lower in oil and gas than in other industries, leading to higher wages.

Dallas-based Kosmos Energy, a deepwater oil exploration and production company, had the highest median salary by a hefty margin – paying $266,306. It’s the only North Texas public company where median salaries exceed $200,000.

Thryv Holdings, a software company born out of a merger of yellow pages publishers, comes close, though, with a median salary of $187,670.

If oil and gas aren’t in your future, real estate and finance companies also crack the high-paying list, with companies like investment giant Charles Schwab, banking mainstay Comerica and homebuilder D.R. Horton among the top.

About 17% of U.S. workers make more than $100,000 annually.
