DFW Airport wants 38 new restaurants and retail options in its terminals

The announcement comes as the airport prepares for changes among its terminals and construction of a sixth terminal.

DFW International Airport is eyeing 38 new restaurants, shops and services spread throughout its terminals as it begins construction this year on a sixth terminal and other improvements.

Last year, DFW Airport and American Airlines signed a deal for $4.8 billion in expansions, including $1.6 billion for the new terminal. Now, as the airport prepares for big changes, DFW is issuing a request for proposals for 38 new retail and dining spots across all of its terminals. It would be the largest single concessions opportunity since Terminal D opened in 2005.

Ken Buchanan, executive vice president of revenue management and customer experience, said the airport will be “nearly doubling the space available to its shopping and dining program.”

“This is an all-inclusive opportunity for both our veteran concessionaires to consider expanding as well as for newcomers in the community who operate street locations or other small businesses to participate in the tremendous economic opportunity that DFW provides,” Buchanan said in a release. “We are committed to including small, diverse companies who represent local flavors or national brands.”

DFW is refurbishing Terminals A and C. Terminal C’s new look will include four of the nine new gates, the other five going to Terminal A in its revamp. The airport will expand in phases, CEO Sean Donohue told The News last May. There will be three to four phases of “tear down and rebuild,” he said. In October, DFW began the plan for Terminal C by overhauling nearby parking garages.

Construction for Terminal F is expected to finish by the end of 2026.

Requests are open until Aug. 12 for submissions, which include 17 “food and beverage concepts” and 17 retail stores along with opportunities for services like a nap center or entertainment and gaming concepts. DFW currently has over 200 concessions.

Retail and dining options will be announced later this year, including the concessions opportunities for the long-awaited Terminal F.
