Chicago-based private investment firm opening office at Old Parkland in Dallas

Bill Macatee will lead operations at Vistria’s second office in the U.S.

The newest resident at the esteemed Old Parkland campus in Dallas is a Chicago-based private investment firm.

The Vistria Group selected Dallas for its second office location and expects to move in at the beginning of December. It has 44 employees and manages $6.5 billion in assets with a focus on mid-market companies in health care, education and financial services.

Bill Macatee is leading operations at the Dallas office, serving as partner and head of strategic relationships. Before joining Vistria eight years ago, Macatee had a career in media as a local and national broadcaster with WFAA-TV (Channel 8) and CBS.

“You want to be where the action is, and in the world of investing, this is where the action is,” Macatee said.

The office will be small with “limited” new hires, he said.

While Chicago has been the nucleus for the company, Dallas has become a big base for Vistria’s portfolio companies, Macatee said. Being close by will allow them to better support those companies. Two examples include Bloomington, Minn.-based online learning provider Edmentum and Park City, Utah-based health care staffing partner Supplemental Health Care, which both have large presences in the Dallas area.
