Topgolf to open in Grand Prairie next year

Grand Prairie officials call the fifth North Texas Topgolf a ‘hole-in-one’ for their expanding entertainment district.

Grand Prairie is set to get its own Topgolf location, the fifth in the region for the Dallas-based sports and entertainment company.

TopGolf will break ground on the venue later this year and is expected to open in late 2025, according to city officials.

The new Topgolf will open in Grand Prairie’s EpicCentral entertainment district, south of IKEA and next to Bass Pro Shops and Andretti’s Indoor Karting & Games.

According to a Grand Prairie city representative, Topgolf intends to hire about 250 employees for the new location.

“It just fits right in with what we’re trying to accomplish,” Grand Prairie Mayor Ron Jensen said of the new venue. “A family-friendly, affordable destination for staycations.”

The city expanded the entertainment district in 2021, constructing hotels, a convention center and restaurant space. The 172-acre park at George W. Bush Tollway and Arkansas Lane also has man-made lakes, a water park and a recreation center. The city-owned property is the result of a public-private partnership.

“Our entertainment corridor just got a hole-in-one more exciting,” the city’s economic development department posted on Facebook.

Jensen remembers when Grand Prairie didn’t even have a Smoothie King. The city looks a lot different these days, he said.

“When I became elected mayor, I was going to fight real hard to bring us economic development and get us anything we didn’t have,” Jensen said.

This will be the Texas’ 13th Topgolf location, the most of any state in the U.S., and the fifth Topgolf in North Texas. The D-FW area has venues in Dallas, The Colony, Allen and Fort Worth. The company has more than 80 venues across 36 states and locations in 11 other countries, from Australia to China to Germany.

The complex in Grand Prairie will have outdoor hitting bays, its signature high-tech golf game and food and drink options.

In 2022, Grand Prairie announced a BigShots Golf venue would open this year in EpicCentral, its third Texas location. But in 2023, Topgolf’s parent company bought BigShots Golf for around $29 million. Despite the company changes, Jensen said Topgolf decided to proceed with plans for the Grand Prairie venue.

Golf entertainment companies have been popping up all over the state. This year, Tiger Woods’ mini golf company PopStroke opened its second Texas location in The Colony’s Grandscape district. The Perfect Round indoor golf simulator and cocktail bar has three locations in the greater Houston area.
