A fast-growing California-based furniture retailer has snapped up a Grand Prairie building for its first North Texas location.
Living Spaces, which already has locations in the Austin area and San Antonio, is taking over the former Restoration Hardware distribution center on West Pioneer Parkway, which closed earlier this year.
The furniture and home accessories firm has stores in four states and also has a huge digital sales footprint. Its most popular offerings include the popular Magnolia Home line designed by Waco-based Fixer Upper star Joanna Gaines.
Living Spaces has been working on its new Grand Prairie outlet for several months.
Last month, Grand Prairie city official approved plans for "Living Spaces to establish retail, restaurant and warehouse uses in an existing 882,445 square-foot commercial office-warehouse building," according to filings with the city.
Grand Prairie economic development officials confirm they have worked with the La Mirada, California-based retailer on its first Dallas-Fort Worth area store.
This year Living Space opened a 650,000-square-foot, $40 million furniture center in Pflugerville north of Austin. That store created more than 100 full-time jobs, according to local media reports.
The Austin store is about twice the size of the nearby Ikea location and includes 150,000 square feet of retail space and a 400,000-square-foot Internet sales fulfillment center.
Living Spaces earlier this year bought a site in San Antonio for another large store and shipping hub.
The Grand Prairie industrial complex that Living Spaces has landed in was first occupied by Restoration Hardware in 2013 for a customer-service and warehouse operation. The building is just off Bush Turnpike and north of Interstate 20.
Ikea opened a store in that same area in December.
