Dallas' home-grown coworking company, Common Desk, is expanding outside the area for the first time with the purchase of an Austin company.
The 7-year-old shared-office firm has purchased Link Coworking, which has two Austin locations and a third on the way.
Link Coworking was one of the first shared-office operations in Austin, opening in 2010.
"We've wanted to get into Austin for a few years now," Common Desk CEO Nick Clark said in a statement. "Acquiring Link Coworking was a perfect way to establish an immediate presence and continue the legacy of one of the great, original coworking brands of Austin."
The Austin acquisition is just the latest expansion for Common Desk. In recent months, the company has announced new shared office locations on Ross Avenue in downtown Dallas and in the historic West End district.
Common Desk also has locations in Deep Ellum, Oak Cliff, Plano, Addison and Fort Worth.
Coworking companies are among the fastest growth users of U.S. office space. In 2018, shared office firms leased more than 20 millions square feet nationwide, which was second only to tech companies in demand for new offices.
