JPMorgan Chase expands Dallas office to accommodate growing workforce

The financial corporation is leasing another floor, allowing it to accommodate about 700 workspaces in the downtown building.

About a year and a half after JPMorgan Chase moved to 1900 N. Akard St. in downtown Dallas, the financial services juggernaut is growing at the office building overlooking Klyde Warren Park.

The move is set to accommodate JPMorgan’s growing workforce in the area, giving it 167,000 square feet and about 700 workspaces in the building.

When JPMorgan first leased space in the 14-story Hunt Consolidated headquarters building along Woodall Rodgers Freeway, it took the ground-floor for a Chase branch and the second through fifth floors of the building. Its initial lease was meant to hold about 600 workers.

“Our growth in Dallas keeps going,” Elaine Agather, chairman of JPMorgan Chase in Dallas, said in a statement. “We are excited to increase our presence in such a beautiful, well-located workspace. The energy you feel walking inside is tangible. Our employees do not want to miss a day. It’s fun, and our clients feel that.”

A filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation shows that the bank will add improvements to the floor with work on offices, conference rooms, restrooms, a break room and open office space. Corgan is handling the renovation of the space, which is set to begin in May with a delivery date earmarked for Dec. 31.

Jamie Dimon, CEO of JPMorgan Chase & Co., once again touted Texas’ business-friendliness in a visit to Houston on Tuesday — and the corporation’s commitment to growing its workforce in the state underscores that. Texas has surpassed New York in terms of employee count at JPMorgan in recent years. The Lone Star State has jumped above 30,000 employees to New York’s less than 29,000.

Dallas-Fort Worth has emerged as a mecca for financial services companies and jobs over the past decade. Recent research from commercial real estate services firm JLL shows the region was second to New York in job postings between 2021 and 2023. Dallas-Fort Worth totaled 64,191 job postings to New York’s 129,072 during the two-year span.

JPMorgan’s move from its longtime base at 2200 Ross Ave., formerly dubbed Chase Tower, in 2022 set off a domino effect among the broader financial services community to edge closer to Klyde Warren Park. Bank of America announced plans to relocate to 30-story high-rise Parkside Uptown, while Goldman Sachs officially committed to a presence at the forthcoming NorthEnd development.

ProPublica: Irving-based auto lender Exeter deferred loans and drove up borrowing costs
Exeter is one of the largest auto lenders in the nation, specializing in high-interest loans to people with histories of not paying bills or defaulting on debt, a practice known as subprime lending. The company, which has more than 500,000 active loans and a partnership agreement with CarMax, the country’s largest used car retailer, casts itself as a provider of second chances. “We’re here to help,” it says on its website. In reality, Exeter’s practices often do the opposite. When the company allows a borrower to skip payments, it typically adds thousands of dollars in new interest charges to the customer’s debt. Dozens of customers told ProPublica that Exeter didn’t tell them about the added costs. When it’s time to make their final payment, many are faced with a huge bill, which they often can’t afford to pay.
