After moving its headquarters from Deerfield, Ill., to Dallas-Fort Worth in 2022, Caterpillar is growing its footprint in the area.
The publicly traded industrial company, which has a portfolio of brands such as Cat and Hindustan, confirmed Wednesday it plans to expand its offices at Williams Square. The company has space in the complex’s west tower, at 5205 N. O’Connor Blvd. in Irving near John W. Carpenter Freeway.
Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation filings under the moniker “Project Mustang” say architecture and design firm Corgan will handle interior renovations across the sixth and seventh floors of the building, along with renovation of a partial floor. Construction of the roughly 50,000-square-foot project is projected to cost $10 million.
Work on the space in Las Colinas is expected to start this week, with delivery slated for May 2025, according to the filing.
The four-building, 1.4 million-square-foot complex that comprises Williams Square is owned by a partnership between Apollo Global, Vanderbilt Office Properties and Hillwood Urban.
Caterpillar, which has had a presence in Texas since the 1960s, counted 120 employees in Irving when the Fortune 500 company’s headquarters move was first announced in 2022.
At the time, a company spokesperson said the 230 employees at the Illinois office would move to Irving over time and also noted its Irving workforce would depend on future business needs.
The company first brought a presence to Williams Square when it consolidated its Electric Power Division in the area, shifting functions and hundreds of jobs to Texas that were formerly in Arizona, California and Indiana. It took down multiple floors at the time.
With its move to Las Colinas, it became the 24th Fortune 500 company with headquarters in D-FW.
Caterpillar’s portfolio companies make products such as bulldozers, backhoe loaders, pipelayers and excavators, among other machines.
It will report first-quarter earnings April 25.
