Ranch tied to family behind Mrs. Baird’s bread empire hits the market

The Hill Country property has been managed by the family for nearly a quarter of a century.

The founders of Texas bread company Mrs. Baird’s plan to part ways with their Hill Country ranch.

Located in Blanco County six miles east of Johnson City, Baird Miller Creek Ranch covers more than 760 acres and is listed for $12.95 million.

While it’s not the most sprawling or most expensive property on the market, it does have a unique aspect in that its uses are — to an extent — limited.

The owner’s grandparents placed a conservation easement on the property in 1990 preserving the ranch into perpetuity. The family has managed the ranch since 1951.

The surrounding area has other conservation-minded landowners who have chosen to preserve their properties as well, according to Lindsey Holubec of Republic Ranches LLC, who is one of the listing agents on the property.

“The ecological values found in these hills and river valleys between Austin, Johnson City, and Dripping Springs warrant stewarding and protection for future owners and heirs to enjoy the natural beauty and solitude they offer,” said Ross Studer, one of the other listing agents from Republic Ranches.

The landscapes at Baird Miller Creek Ranch are filled with rolling rangelands with a variety of trees such as live oaks, redbuds, sycamores, pecans and cypresses, among others.

Miller Creek, part of the Pedernales River valley, flows through its center, and the property comes with 3,900 feet of ownership on both sides of the waterway. A concrete dam constructed in the 1950s also rests within the bounds of the ranch.

Additional marine resources include three ponds, one of which is stocked with fish, and three wells.

The property is currently used to graze a small herd of longhorn cattle.

Existing structures on the property include three residences — a main house by the creek, guest cabin and a tenant’s house — along with a storage and equipment barn and hay barn, among other outbuildings and sheds.

Charles Davidson of Republic Ranches is also listing the ranch on Robinson Road.
