Dallas’ DataBank to build $256 million project in Red Oak

The company has seven data centers in North Texas already.

Data center company DataBank Inc. has plans to build a more than 425,000-square-foot facility in the Ellis County community of Red Oak.

According to a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, the Dallas-based company will construct the two-story data center with an office component starting in September.

The project, designed by Mansfield’s JHET Architects, comes with a construction cost of $256 million, according to the filing.

Data centers bring with them massive business personal property taxes that can be transformative for a community’s tax base, but also demand significant utility usage.

The filing from DataBank follows the company’s April announcement of a $725 million credit facility dedicated toward financing ongoing and future data center construction projects.

DataBank also revealed a $280 million expansion in Plano in December at its project in Legacy Business Park located at 8735 Dominion Parkway.

Last year, the company raised $533 million in debt and equity to fund the construction of new data centers.

Prior to that, it received a $2.2 billion recapitalization led by SwissLife Asset Management.
