NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal looks to sell his Carrollton estate

O’Neal purchased the Carrollton home in 2022.

Basketball Hall of Famer Shaquille O’Neal wants to sell one of his two homes in Dallas-Fort Worth.

Months after closing on a home in Rockwall County, O’Neal now seeks to sell the Carrollton estate he purchased in 2022.

The asking price for the 5,269-square-foot home is just shy of $1.7 million. Built in 2005, the house has five bedrooms, five full bathrooms, and two half-baths.

The listing boasts of a “moody cigar lounge-esque library” just off the foyer with a tiered ceiling, fireplace, and a wall of built-in shelving. A wall of windows allows for a great view of the lagoon-style backyard pool and palm trees.

Other noteworthy features include two huge, floored walk-in attic spaces for storage and a six-seat media room. The home is located in Gates of Prestonwood, a luxury gated community.

Zac Gideo of Rogers Healy and Associates Real Estate is listed as the seller’s agent. Gideo helped O’Neal purchase that home in 2022 and announced the sale on Instagram. A grinning O’Neal towered over him, flashing a peace sign.

Gideo said Monday that he could not discuss the home or O’Neal’s reasons for selling.

The Carrollton home served as a part-time residence for the four-time NBA champion turned basketball analyst.

It was a place where O’Neal could rest for a week before heading to the West Coast for business. The expansion of O’Neal’s Big Chicken chain restaurant was also cited as a factor for buying in the area.

“When I was young, it was OK to have [a big] house,” O’Neal told The Dallas Morning News in a 2023 interview. “But a five-bedroom house with a person who’s living by myself, I think that’s fine. I think that’s plenty. I just wanted to get something quick. When I get close to retirement, I’m looking to go down to the Southlake area. So I’ll definitely get me a monster there. I was spending way too much money at the hotels, and it don’t make sense.”

O’Neal listed the Carrollton home three months after closing on a 4,670-square-foot home in Heath, about 25 miles from downtown Dallas.

The Chexy Trust, which has been associated with previous O’Neal real estate transactions across the country, purchased the property in April, according to Rockwall County property records.

Gideo represented the trust in the purchase, and the same trust is listed as the owner of the Carrollton home.

It’s unclear what plans O’Neal has for the Rockwall County home, but he was seen out and about in the area earlier this month.

Photos and video footage of O’Neal at Walmart, Home Depot and chicken finger restaurant Raising Cane’s appeared on social media before the July Fourth holiday.

O’Neal, 52, won the NBA Most Valuable Player award in 2000 and made the All-NBA First Team eight times in his career.
