FDIC to start multi-million dollar renovation, expansion at downtown Dallas office

The work will start later this month, an agency spokesperson said.

The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation will soon start a multi-million dollar renovation and expansion of its regional office in downtown Dallas.

The federal agency plans to build out two floors at the Plaza of the Americas at 600 N. Pearl St. One floor was held under the FDIC’s original lease but remained vacant, and the agency acquired another floor under a lease amendment.

The FDIC, which backs most savings and checking accounts in the U.S., is also renovating 5,600 square feet of existing space on other floors to increase the number of workspaces available to its employees, according to an agency spokesperson.

Filings with the Texas Department of Licensing and Registration show the estimated construction costs are $2.5 million. The work will begin later this month, and the FDIC hopes to occupy the new space by early 2025.

The work appears to be part of FDIC’s larger Dallas expansion. According to a bid solicitation posted by the agency in July, the FDIC plans to build out office space on the entire 10th, 11th, 12th, and 13th floors as well as portions of the 4th through 9th floors. The space covers 102,800 square feet.

The expansion comes as the FDIC mandated that employees return to the office two days a week in July, Federal News Network reported.

An FDIC spokesperson declined to say if the agency was adding more employees in Dallas.

The FDIC signed a lease for a 163,005-square-foot office in Plaza of the Americas in 2021. The FDIC previously occupied an office in downtown’s Energy Plaza building on Bryan Street.
