As Collin County grows, a North Texas hospital system plans a $343 million expansion at its Plano hospital.
Arlington-based Texas Health Resources announced earlier this week that it added a new parking garage and would build an eight-story tower at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Plano (6200 W Parker Road).
Construction on the parking garage was finished this month. Work on the tower is expected to begin in summer 2025, and it’s expected to open in fall 2028.
When completed, the hospital will have close to 400 acute/critical care beds — up from the current count of 230, according to a news release.
Construction is also underway on a new operating room for advanced neuroscience, heart and vascular procedures. The hospital recently completed an expansion of its 42-bed neonatal intensive care unit. Seven hotel-style rooms were added for families of infants receiving care.
“Texas Health cares for more patients in North Texas than any other system,” Kirk King, Texas Health Hospital Channel’s chief operating officer, said in a statement. “We are proud to serve a dynamic, growing community. This investment at Texas Health Plano will help us continue to connect patients and their families with quality care.”
The announced expansion comes after Texas Health Resources purchased 21 acres of land in Celina at the northwest corner of the Dallas North Tollway and the Collin County Outer Loop. The transaction closed in late October.
Brokers involved in the deal said the site would become a hospital or health campus. However, Texas Health Resources said plans for the land have not been solidified.
Collin County has experienced explosive population growth in recent years. It’s home to four of the fastest growing cities in the country — Celina, Anna, Prosper and Princeton. These cities were in the top 15 for population growth rate between July 2022 and July 2023, according to the U.S. Census.
During the same period, Collin County added more than 36,000 residents — the second most in the United States. Only Harris County (Houston) outperformed it.
Texas Health Resources is a faith-based, nonprofit healthcare system that covers 16 counties and more than 7 million people in North Texas.
