BeautiControl to lay off 139 employees from Carrollton locations

Tupperware Brands announced the BeautiControl layoffs as part of a companywide closure, which includes two Texas locations.

Carrollton-based BeautiControl Inc. is laying off 141 employees as part of its upcoming companywide closure that includes two Texas locations and one in Canada, according to a letter to the Texas Workforce Commission.

The cosmetics company specialized in direct sales to customers through beauty consultants who hosted parties for potential customers. Tupperware Brands, which bought BeautiControl in 2000 for $60 million, announced earlier this month that it would close the unit after failing to find a buyer.

The local workers affected by the beauty company's closure are:

  • 75 office personnel at 2121 Midway Road in Carrollton

  • 64 manufacturing and related personnel at 4717 Plano Parkway in Carrollton

Two additional employees from the Midway Road location have taken jobs with Tupperware Brands Corp.

The company notified workers of the layoffs on July 20, according to the document sent to the state. BeautiControl expects the workers' last day will be Sept. 18, and it will close the following day.

BeautiControl has been contacted for comment.

Tupperware's stock closed Monday at $60.71 per share, down nearly 15 percent from a week ago.
