Southlake Town Square attracts 12 new stores, four firsts to D-FW

Online brands are opening some of their first brick-and-mortar stores in Southlake.

Southlake Town Square, surrounded by high-income neighborhoods, is attracting emerging new brands that are just beginning to open brick-and-mortar stores — including four that are first to the Dallas-Fort Worth market.

Southern Tides, Chubbies, Waggle Golf and Fount are opening their first stores in Dallas-Fort Worth. All but Chubbies, which has a store in Houston and is owned by Grapevine-based Solo Brands, are opening their first Texas stores in Southlake Town Square.

The emerging brands have proven track records of online sales, but don’t have stores in the market, said Jason Kasal, vice president and senior leasing director at Kite Realty Group, the Indianapolis-based real estate investment trust that owns Southlake Town Square.

“We strive to offer unique access to a collection of brands that are still new to the shopper,” Kasal said.

Austin-based boot brand Tecovas opened last Friday with 75 people waiting to get in, Kasal said, and Postino WineCafé opened Monday. Postino is known for its unique interiors, bruschetta boards and $6 pitchers of beer and glasses of wine.

Southlake’s 5,000-square-foot Postino has multiple subtle nods to Back To The Future playing off of the town hall and courthouse in the middle of Southlake Town Square, Kasal said.

“There’s the clock wall which looks like Doc Brown’s house including the cat clocks, the mural which is a tribute to Van Halen and McFly’s Pinheads and even the Southlake logo is reminiscent of the movie logo,” he said.

The outdoor shopping center with 120 stores and restaurants has also been attracting retailers that are opening second stores in D-FW.

The only other local stores for premium performance apparel brand Vuori and casual apparel brand Faherty are in Dallas’ NorthPark Center. California-based facial salon Skin Laundry has only two other salons in the market and they’re both in Dallas.

Minnesota-based golf apparel brand Waggle is opening its first store anywhere.

Ohio-based Fount makes leather handbags and accessories and has only four stores in Ohio and Kentucky.

Southern Tides, a premium coastal lifestyle apparel brand, has several stores in Florida, the Carolinas, Massachusetts and Rhode Island, but this will be its first in Texas.

Vuori, Faherty, Waggle and Southern Tide are trying to be open by November, Kasal said.

Men’s apparel brands johnnie-O and Chubbies, along with Skin Laundry, will likely open in December.

Women’s apparel brand Aritzia and Dallas-based men’s brand Mizzen + Main opened over the summer.

“Just like 2023 was an incredible year for Town Square, we are working on some pretty big announcements for 2024,” Kasal said.
