Chewy to open vet clinics in McKinney and Fort Worth

The online pet food company is expanding into treating cats and dogs

Pets in North Texas will soon get new veterinary services at physical locales from online pet food provider Chewy.

The Florida company is set to open its Chewy Vet Care at sites in McKinney and Fort Worth, said Mita Malhotra, president of Chewy Health, in an email. The new service, announced at the end of last year, is available now in the Atlanta and Denver areas, along with south Florida, according to its website.

“The team chose Dallas because it is a thriving market with plenty of opportunity,” Malhotra said. “In the coming months, we’ll open in Austin and Houston as well.”

The new services aim to deepen Chewy’s relationships with customers through offerings that include insurance and wellness plans. With vet care, Chewy plans to provide separate waiting areas for not-so-social pets along with exam rooms that help pets feel more comfortable than confined, according to its website. There’s also a personalized pet portal that gives digital access to medical records, care plans, prescriptions and online scheduling.

Both of the DFW sites are set to open in 2025.

The company is expanding into the field as many Americans welcome pets into their homes. Over 60% of U.S. adults have a pet, according to the Pew Research Center, with dog owners topping those who prefer cats, according to a report last year. Roughly half of pet owners say they consider animals to be as much a part of their family as a human member.

The McKinney sitewill be at 8701 West University Drive, and the Fort Worth location will be at 3251 Tracewood Way in the Alliance area.
