Flexibility pays off at Top 100 winner Spine Team Texas

The Southlake-based spine and neck care practice had to quickly pivot to move its six D-FW locations from one-on-one physical care into the virtual sphere.

NO. 3 SMALL COMPANY

First-Time Winner
Special Award: Best Training

This year, Spine Team Texas lived up to its middle name. The first-time winner grabbed the No. 3 spot among our midsize companies because it espouses the power of working together no matter what functions are being performed by its 208 D-FW workers.

And that was critical during the pandemic.

“I work for a group of physicians who prioritize the employees as highly as they do their patients,” a staff member told us. “Although they are obviously the bosses, there is never an air of condescension or disrespect during their interactions with us.”

“I have never had a job that had such great teamwork,” said another. “Spine Team is amazing. Everyone is genuine and there to help people, and it shows. Having a great team begins with management hiring the right people for the job and training them properly.”

This one-for-all mindset enabled the Southlake-based spine and neck care practice to quickly pivot to move its six D-FW locations from entirely one-on-one physical care into the virtual sphere.

“We pushed ourselves to leverage current and new technologies like never before,” CEO Mark Hood said. “This allowed Spine Team Texas to develop our new normal in record time.”

Spine Team’s expertise ranges from simple neck strains to complex spine disorders. It was founded in 2004.

“For the first time, our providers were able to care for our patients via telemedicine, including the delivery of physical therapy. Historically, visits had always been done on site and hands-on by our experts,” Hood said.

“And just as important, we added telemedicine to our organization’s health plans to ensure that our employees had quick and safe access to health care.”

It’s not surprising that Spine Team also won our special award for Best Training. One employee loved that the doctors took time to teach staffers about what they actually do. “I’ve always found that very helpful in my day-to-day work. They also educate us occasionally on the different kinds of medical procedures they do for their patients: why they do it, what it does, how it helps, etc.”

Hood said he couldn’t be prouder about how Spine Teamers faced down so many unforeseen challenges. “Never before have I seen such a high level of collaboration and unparalleled flexibility, which not only allowed us to continue to provide exceptional patient care during the pandemic but also to protect our workforce during the stressful economic situation our nation is facing,” he said.

Spine Team got its highest marks on the statement: This company operates by strong values.

Employees returned the love.

“I can go to anybody on my team for help or advice while being challenged to produce my best work possible,” one employee said.

“I have a supervisor that is always there for me no matter what,” said another. I have never had this at any other medical practice that I have worked for in the past."
