We had a hunch that the 14th year of the Top 100 Places to Work might break previous records, and that was certainly the case. We had a whopping 383 companies participate in this year’s survey, and the winners were chosen by 113,586 survey responses — our biggest numbers ever.
And once again, real estate companies hogged the spotlight. In our large company category, this is the third year in a row that all three top winners were in real estate-related businesses. For two years straight, two of the midsize winners were also in real estate. If the housing market continues to cool off, it will be interesting to see whether other industries can break that streak next year.
We have 28 first-time winners, about the same as in previous years, and they’re in all kinds of industries, from car dealers to app builders, consultants to security companies.
And we continue to have friendly family competition — at least we presume it’s friendly: PlainsCapital Bank and its PrimeLending mortgage lending company, two Century 21 real estate companies and two Sam Pack auto dealerships are among this year’s winners.
Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers stands alone as our 14-time champion, a remarkable feat for any company. Even more remarkable: It kept up that streak through a pandemic, in an industry known for high turnover — and while experiencing rapid growth. Let’s hope the streak never ends.
We hope you enjoy this year’s magazine — and get some tips on what makes a great workplace along the way. If you’d like to enter next year’s competition, watch for the call for entries in March at dallasnews.com/top100 and in the Business section of The Dallas Morning News.
