Still looking for a local, pasture-raised gobbler for Thanksgiving? You're in luck: When Burgundy Local Grass Fed Meat Market opens its Dallas store Nov. 17, it will have a handful of turkeys from Windy Meadows Family Farm.
Burgundy Pasture Beef, one of the area's first producers of artisanal, grass-fed beef, brings to Dallas the first butcher shop devoted to fresh, not frozen, grass-fed beef, lamb, pork and chicken. (Health laws dictate that meat sold at farmers markets be frozen.) Burgundy Beef has two other shops, one in Fort Worth and one in Grandview near the ranch. Dallas 411: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday-Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. 3310 Ross Ave., 972-707-7241. burgundypasturebeef.com.
More pop-up baked goodies: Bakers Lily Hanson and Skye McDaniel host their Thanksgiving Bake pop-up sale 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Urban Goods. The women will have streusel-topped apple pie, cardamom Finnish bread and spiced pumpkin cake among so many delish items. 1410 N. Fitzhugh Ave., 214-803-6638.
While you're there, pop in a few doors down at Jimmy's Food Store for some East Texas heirloom purple Cherokee tomatoes. It's the last week for these beauties.
Cold snap: Our weather is slated to turn more fallish over the weekend, and with that, we'll begin to see less of late-summer fruits and vegetables, such yellow and zucchini squash, okra and tomatoes, at the farmers markets. No complaints: We've had a fantastic, long glide of warmer weather that's kept those items coming. As they peter out, look for cabbage, broccoli, bok choy, spinach, kale and more to take their place.
And don't forget Elliott Grows for your holiday table. The lettuce specialists from Aubrey had the most beautiful butterhead lettuce at the Dallas market last weekend -- huge heads of dark green leaves worthy of a still life. Find them at Coppell and Dallas farmers markets.
