New spiked boba bar is drawing late-night crowd in North Dallas

North Texas’ first spiked boba shop opened its doors four months ago and has been a hit ever since.

Shot Tea Boba Bar, located near Addison, is part boba shop and part bar selling liquor-infused boba teas and shots.

In addition to virgin boba, the menu features creations like milk teas with brandy and fruit teas with vodka or tequila, with the most popular items being the Lychee Surprise, Mango Paloma and Honeydew Refresher.

Shot Tea also features an event space where a DJ plays every weekend. The spot picks up later at night. It’s open from 3 to 10 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday and 2 to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

“On the weekends, people come in until 11 as a pregame spot and then go out,” says co-owner Mimi Vu.

Vu and co-owner Ryoma Takahashi curated half the menu, while the other half was assembled by prominent Dallas bartender George Kaiho of Jettison and Ka-Tip Thai Street Food.

Vu was a nail technician for nine years prior to opening Shot Tea. She found inspiration during a trip to Las Vegas, where she ordered a Thai tea at a restaurant. The server then recommended they spike the tea, which Vu, in turn, thought was a great business idea. Because of liquor licenses and permits, it took Vu and Takahashi two years to finally open their dream shop.

Vu says business has been great due to word of mouth and traction from social media, and she hopes to open another location in the near future.
