Longtime Fort Worth Stockyards restaurant Los Vaqueros is moving

Its owners sold the historic building they’ve been operating in for decades to downsize.

A longtime restaurant in the Fort Worth Stockyards, Los Vaqueros, sold its historic building and is relocating to another property nearby.

The Tex-Mex restaurant, which opened in the Stockyards in 1982, is saying goodbye to the more than 100-year-old brick building it has been located in for decades to move into a smaller space. Its last day operating at 2629 N. Main St. will be June 30, 2024.

“While we’ve loved the challenge of a 34,000-square-foot building, it is time for the building to have an opportunity to grow further, and our vision for Los Vaqueros’ future does not coincide with expansion,” Vicki Cisneros, president of the restaurant’s parent company Cisneros Restaurants Inc., said in a written statement.

“Our vision is to continue to operate in a way that allows us to adhere to our core values of family, food, grace, community service and hospitality — which means a smaller footprint. It will also allow us to spend more time enjoying our grandchildren, family and friends,” Cisneros added.

The restaurant’s chef and Vicki Cisneros’ husband, Johnny Cisneros, said a smaller space will also give way to more creativity and seasonality in the kitchen.

The Cisneros family received many offers to buy their building over the years, but none represented the building’s integrity, Vicki Cisneros said. The latest offer they received, though, was different.

She didn’t say who bought the building, but said it is “going to a unique, family-owned and operated business, deeply rooted in America’s history and excited to be part of the Stockyards community.”

Online records show a deed of trust for the building at 2629 N. Main St. was secured between Cisneros Restaurants and PlainsCapital Bank in February 2024.

Los Vaqueros will reopen after July 4, 2024 in the Stockyards Exhibit building — less than half a mile from its current location. The new 8,000-square-foot space, while significantly smaller than the previous one, will still have a patio and room for large parties.

Los Vaqueros is relocating from 2629 North Main Street, Fort Worth to 2513 Rodeo Plaza, Forth Worth. Its last day on Main Street will be June 30, 2024. It is expected to reopen in its new location after July 4, 2024. losvaqueros.com.
