Popular Las Vegas dumpling restaurant to open in D-FW soon

James Beard-nominated chef Jimmy Li is bringing his signature xiao long bao, or soup dumplings, to Plano.

Las Vegas Shanghainese restaurant ShangHai Taste will open its doors in Plano next month.

The Plano location, which is set to open Oct. 8, will be the first restaurant venture outside of Nevada for James Beard-nominated chef Jimmy Li, who has gained national attention for his xiao long bao, or soup dumplings.

ShangHai Taste will open at Legacy Drive and U.S. 75 in the Legacy Century Crossing development. It was initially expected to open in April but experienced permit delays, according to a spokesperson for the restaurant.

The Las Vegas restaurant, which opened in 2019, is a small, no-reservations spot where passersby can watch dumplings be filled and pleated from the storefront window.

The Plano location will be a bit larger than the Las Vegas shop but will maintain the same intimacy with just 1,350 square feet of space and 38 seats.

“We hope to become a valued part of Plano’s outstanding dining scene and we live up to everyone’s expectations,” Li said in a statement.
