This juicy, nicely balanced IPA is the refreshing ale we’ve been craving lately. Brewed with natural blood orange and a hops bill that includes Citra hops, it’s bursting with bright citrus aromas and flavors.
The ale’s inviting clementine and blood orange aromas segue to the palate, where the fruit flavors meet zesty hop bitterness ― tempered a tad by pale malts. Although Texas Blood is now a year-round offering, the thirst-quenching ale with a crisp finish is the perfect IPA for hot summer days.
Kat Thompson, co-owner of Texas Ale Project, says the beer’s name refers not only to the blood orange flavor profile but also to the Texas pride coursing through our veins. Originally a limited release experiment in the brewery’s Research and Development Series, the beer was brought back for a second season last year and gained popularity over Texas-OU weekend. When fans of Texas Blood clamored for more, the brewery responded by adding the ale to its permanent lineup. Replacing it in the limited release series is SMASH Experiment Blonde Ale (SMASH is an acronym for single malt and single hop).
A six-pack of Texas Blood sells for about $10.99 at Central Market, Whole Foods Market, Kroger, Spec’s, Total Wine, Market Street, Pogo’s, Sigel’s, Craft Beer Cellar, North Oak Cliff Beer and Wine, Dan’s Food Store, Jimmy’s Food Store, Lakewood Medallion Discount Liquor and select Target stores.
