Community Beer Co. expanding to larger location and will start distilling spirits, too

The new space, opening in fall 2021, will include a two-story taproom, outdoor biergarten, multiple event spaces and a concert venue.

As the North Texas craft beer landscape expands, so too do some of the breweries that helped ignite the boom eight years ago. Dallas-based Community Beer Co. just announced it will be relocating its taproom and production brewery facilities to a much larger location in coming months. Just the news that Community will have an open taproom is a welcome announcement, as the brewery has been open for to-go beer only since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

The new location will be located at 3110 Commonwealth Drive in Dallas, just a bit north of where the current Design District brewery is located now. Construction has already begun on the sprawling new site that’s a part of the recently renovated Pegasus Plaza development, the former home to an Exxon Mobile campus.

According to a press release, the location will feature “expanded brewing and distilling operations, a two-story taproom, outdoor biergarten, multiple event spaces and a concert venue.”

Or with:

Opened in 2013, Community was one of the first few of the new generation Dallas craft breweries to open, along with Deep Ellum Brewing Company and Peticolas Brewing. Although Community has been in one spot since its birth, growth and development isn’t new to the award-winning brewer.

In its earliest days, patrons downed pints of Community’s Mosaic IPA or Public Ale pulled from a few taps stuck in a wall behind a makeshift bar inside the brewing facility. A little while later, a proper taproom was constructed, separate from the brewery tanks and equipment to nurture the communal vibe the company was named for.

Perhaps most intriguingly, the addition of a distilling program will provide Community a distinction still rare in the increasingly crowded D-FW craft beer market. Making whiskey, vodka and gin products on the same property as its beer will make for a unique one-stop shop for area alcohol lovers. Deep Ellum Brewing opened Deep Ellum Distillery in 2017, but the two spaces are located a few blocks from one another, not on the same plot.

Community Beer Co.’s new location is currently expected to host its grand opening in fall 2021.

Community Beer Co. is located (for now) at 1530 Inspiration Drive, Dallas. The new location will be at 3110 Commonwealth Drive. communitybeer.com.
