Dallas’ newest Mesero has opened in Preston Hollow

Now that Mesero has 6 restaurants in North Texas, the next focus area is Denver.

Mexican restaurant Mesero is now open in Preston Hollow Village, at Walnut Hill Lane and Central Expressway in Dallas.

It’s the northernmost Mesero in Dallas proper, designed to serve residents in Preston Hollow, Lake Highlands, Lakewood and Park Cities. This new Mesero is the sixth for its parent company Mesero Restaurant Group. (There’s yet another Mesero, operated by founder Mico Rodriguez and located on McKinney Avenue in Uptown, but that restaurant is now called Doce Mesas.)

Trey Dyer, the president and CEO of Mesero Restaurant Group, says Preston Hollow’s Mesero was designed to look and feel familiar to customers who already know the brand.

“When you walk in, you’re going to feel at home because of the elements present there: There’s an open kitchen, the same tile, the same reclaimed wood look, the same tables, chairs and booths,” Dyer says. It has expansive patios and a second floor for private dining events.

The restaurant is located in the ground floor of The Preston, an apartment building in Preston Hollow Village. Trader Joe’s and many of the existing restaurants at that intersection were built first; projects like The Preston and Mesero were part of Preston Hollow Village’s phase two construction.

There’s no telling what diners will choose as Mesero’s most popular dish, Dyer says.

“It’s a really hard one to answer,” he says. He looks to other restaurants’ for examples: “The carne asada is the No. 1. And the brisket tacos are up there. And the salmon is a big seller. We just put redfish on the menu six months ago and it’s exploded.” But the popularity of dishes differs from neighborhood to neighborhood. The same is true for drink sales. Dyer notes that “Inwood’s a big wine drinker. Legacy West is more alcohol [as in mixed drinks]. Victory Park is a lot more alcohol.”

Beyond those three locations, Dyer’s team also operates Mesero restaurants on Belt Line Road in Addison and at the Shops at Clearfork in Fort Worth.

The next move for the company is Denver, where the company is actively looking for restaurant spaces.

“Out of state is where we want to take the show on the road and see if it works,” Dyer says.

And why Denver? “There are a lot of Dallasites up there,” he says. “And frankly, [Denver restaurants] have nothing when it comes to our flavor profile.”

Mesero is at 7775 Firefall Way (in Preston Hollow Village), Dallas. It opened Nov. 25, 2019.
