Dallas pizza joint opens a ‘ghost kitchen’ in Arlington

Zalat Pizza opened its first location in Dallas in 2015 and now has restaurants across North Texas.

Pizza joint Zalat is growing again, this time opening up a shop in Arlington.

Zalat describes its newest shop as a ghost kitchen, which means that it serves takeout or delivery only. This is the 11th location for the restaurant, which originally opened in 2015 in Dallas and now has locations in Frisco, Plano and Fort Worth. The Arlington restaurant opened Monday.

“We are excited to offer a more convenient location for our fans living in Arlington who have been driving to Fort Worth to get their Zalat fix,” CEO and founder Khanh Nguyen said in a press release.

Zalat uses fresh ingredients, like Roma tomatoes and basil in the sauce, and the pizza dough is made from scratch, Nguyen said. Pizzas are cooked in old-school deck ovens.

The menu offers some traditional pizza toppings, like Pepperoni Masterclass and The Zealot, which comes with pepperoni, sausage, black olives, mushrooms and more. But customers can also choose pizzas with names like Pho Shizzle, Elote and Loaded Notato.

Before a new pizza is introduced to the menu, it’s taste-tested for months, Nguyen said.

Zalat is known for its late-night hours, with food writer Sarah Blaskovich even dubbing it a “stoner pizza joint” in 2019.

Zalat, 1805 N. Collins St., Suite 141, is open 11 a.m. to midnight, Monday through Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday.
