Olympics tip: Here’s a great bar in Dallas to watch the games

Christies has dozens of TVs, making it a good spot to cheer on your favorite athlete.

If you’re looking for a sports bar to watch the Olympics, try Christies on Greenville Avenue. Christies has dozens of TVs and three stories of bar space — meaning there’s a spot for every kind of Olympics fan, from the casual fan to the obsessive observer.

If it’s been a minute since you’ve been to Christies, it moved: It earned the nickname “Cheers of Uptown” when it served beer and wings on McKinney Avenue for 29 years. In early 2021, the bar relocated to its current home on Greenville Avenue.

With the new digs comes a bigger bar, a new rooftop patio, and even more TVs than the last spot.

The co-owners say they will show any Olympic sport on TV during the bar’s business hours. The 2020 Summer Olympic Games will be aired from Tokyo between Friday, July 23 and Sunday, Aug. 8, 2021.

Christies will also open early for specific events, like the women’s soccer match at 6:30 a.m. Saturday, July 24, 2021 between Team USA and New Zealand. Check Christies’ Facebook page for updated details on when they’ll open earlier than their usual time, 11 a.m.

The bar has a bit of a choose-your-own-adventure quality to it: The first floor bar is great for serious sports watching, with the biggest block of TVs above the bar. Grab a table on the first floor if you’re eating. Move to the second floor for games. And keep going up, to the rooftop, for Giant Jenga and more sports watching — and a surprisingly cool atmosphere, even when it’s hot.

Now there’s just one more question: When are you getting off the couch to root for Team USA with some friends? Find a schedule of notable events — gymnastics, swimming, and track and field are tops for me — here.
