Palmer’s Hot Chicken to open in Preston Hollow’s buzziest spot

There’s going to be a lot to eat across the street from Jesuit.

Palmer’s Hot Chicken, a restaurant that started in Lakewood, is hatching a second location in Dallas’ Preston Hollow.

It’s expected to open in early 2022.

The new Palmer’s will be on Inwood Road, north of Forest Lane and across the street from Jesuit preparatory school. You know it: It’s that triangular-shaped sliver of a shopping center that’s packed in the evenings. Neighbors currently visit Republic Texas Tavern and ice cream shop Howdy Homemade. But soon, a Taco Joint will open there. That’s three locally-grown food shops — good ones — in a small space. Palmer’s makes four.

Palmer’s serves Nashville hot chicken, which is the fastest-growing style of fast-casual food Dallas has seen in years. We have more than two-dozen Nashville hot chicken shops in Dallas-Fort Worth. It’s got a fiery following, too: At the debut of Dave’s Hot Chicken, people waited in line for two hours.

In a city ballooning with out-of-town hot chicken companies, Palmer’s feels more neighborhood focused. It’s owned by Palmer Fortune, a former Georgia and Tennessee native who relocated to Dallas. His restaurant serves chicken, catfish and Gulf shrimp, doused in varying levels of cayenne-inflected heat.

Palmer’s serves a great fried chicken sandwich with pimento cheese called the MotherClucker. It also serves street tacos with chicken, catfish or shrimp. Health enthusiasts can opt for wraps or salads.

Unlike many of its competitors, Palmer’s has a full bar slinging mint juleps, palomas and ranch waters. Its frosé comes in several sizes (including a gallon for party people: whee!).

The original Palmer’s in Lakewood, which is also tucked into a shopping center, has games like Giant Jenga and Connect Four on its covered, turfed patio. The Preston Hollow offshoot will have a similar vibe, Fortune says.

“Dallas welcomed our first location with open arms, and we now have many regulars that are a part of the Palmer’s family,” he says in a statement. “We are excited to get to know more guests in the Preston Hollow area and hopefully we will become a staple in their dining options.”

Palmer’s Hot Chicken will be at 12300 Inwood Road, Dallas. It’s expected to open in early 2022.
