The Local Oak restaurant and bar will serve its last meal on Zang Boulevard at the end of this year.
The popular bar, located at 409 N. Zang Blvd. in the Bishop Arts District, will close when its lease expires.
Alamo Manhattan Corp. bought the property in December 2016, according to The Oak Cliff Advocate, and owns the block where The Local Oak is located. The bar also shares the same block as Ten Bells Tavern, which will move to a new location in 2022 after the development owners expressed “no interest” in extending the lease for the tavern.
The developer has brought multi-unit apartment complexes and retail stores to the area over the years and plans to use The Local Oak’s space for another multi-unit apartment complex.
Construction for a nearby trolley along with the COVID-19 pandemic have hurt the restaurant’s business.
“The pandemic really took the wind out of our sails,” Local Oak owner Alycen Cuellar told The Advocate.
Cuellar is looking into ideas for relocation and plans to say farewell with a big Christmas party.
