Tell a ‘Friends’ fan: Dallas bar to be redecorated like famous TV sitcom

It opens Jan. 20, 2022.

Oh. My. God! Fans of Joey, Chandler, Ross, Rachel, Monica and Phoebe will feel right at home at Dallas bar The Whippersnapper, which will transform into a Friends-themed pop-up bar on Jan. 20, 2022.

As bar-goers sit in Joey Tribbiani and Chandler Bing’s squishy recliners or play a game of foosball modeled after their scuzzy New York City apartment, it might be impossible not to yell actor Matt LeBlanc’s signature catchphrase, “How you doin’?” to the friends and strangers walking in.

The Whippersnapper, a bar near Henderson Avenue in Dallas, will get a limited-time-only makeover starting Jan. 20, 2022. All food, drink and decor will be redesigned in honor of the TV show 'Friends.'

Parts of the bar will look like Central Perk, where actor Jennifer Aniston worked part-time as the character Rachel Green.

The pop-up clearly plays to a 30-something audience in Dallas, including those who consider Friends the best TV show of all time. Friends was the most-watched TV show in the 2001-02 season, reaching 22 million homes on average, according to Nielsen.

And it was time for Friends to get a turn at The Whip: The bar has been redecorated a handful of times over the years, taking on limited-time-only stints as a Simpsons beer bar, a meth-themed cocktail spot in honor of Breaking Bad, a boozy spoof of The Office, a drinking den for Family Guy fans and hangout for Harry Potter muggles.

In all cases, The Whip is not employed by the makers of famous TV shows or movies.

The food and cocktail menu isn’t available yet, but we expect drinks to be created in honor of all six Friends. Snacks will be themed based on popular episodes. They’ll sell sandwiches for Joey, right?

The bar will be on a break for four days, starting Jan. 16, while it undergoes a renovation. It’ll reopen Jan. 20, 2022, and will be there for you(uuuuu) for an undetermined number of weeks.

The pop-up opens just after the Friends Experience closes in Plano. For $32.50 to $39.50 per person, that event had 12 recreated rooms from the TV set, including Central Perk and its orange sofa.

The Whippersnapper is at 1804 McMillan Ave., Dallas.
