A bar called the Electric Shagadelic Pussycat Swingers Club is expected to open, temporarily, starting Feb. 9, 2023, in Dallas.
Yeah, baby. Yeah.
This Austin Powers themed bar will soon move into the Whippersnapper, a Henderson Avenue watering hole that keeps reinventing itself. Over the years, the Whip has been redecorated as a Game of Thrones bar, a Friends pop-up and a Simpsons spinoff. Name a major show and the Whip has been on it. It also went on a Breaking Bad bender and had fun runs in honor of The Office and Family Guy. Perhaps its buzziest pop-up was the Harry Potter theme from 2019. The Whip — er, the Leaky Cauldron — made wizardry cool.
At the Electric Shagadelic Pussycat Swingers Club, which will be open for an undisclosed, limited amount of time, cocktails and food will fit the theme.
The Get in My Belly Burger, for instance, is a double cheeseburger with special sauce.
The Freaking Laser Beam is an out-of-this-world cocktail made with Skrewball peanut butter whiskey, cranberry, lemon and lime, with a gummy shark.
And remember Goldmember? A drink with that name has rum, banana, pineapple and orange, with a gold-sugared rim.
The co-founders of the bar are not affiliated with the shagadelic movie. The idea is “just plain fun,” says co-founder Phil Schanbaum. He and co-founder Brandon Hays operate two other bar/restaurants on Dallas’ Henderson Avenue, High Fives and Sfuzzi. They have several others, including the ‘70s themed bar Double D’s in the Dallas Design District, which has been so popular, lines form around the building on busy Saturday nights.
Schanbaum says Austin Powers is one of his favorites — “so I can’t wait to see everyone bring their best mojo to the Whip next month.”
Colorful costumes, Mike Myers impressions and thrusty dance moves are encouraged.
Electric Shagadelic Pussycat Swingers Club — the temporary name for the Whippersnapper — is at 1806 McMillan Ave., Dallas. It’s expected to open Feb. 9, 2023. Hours of operation will be 6 p.m. to 2 a.m., Wednesdays through Saturdays.
