Comerica offers small business owners and others free shredding services

Securely dispose of sensitive documents at Comerica Bank locations across D-FW with this free, convenient service.

If you’re a small business owner looking to protect confidential information, or just someone who needs a safe way to dispose of sensitive documents, a solution is here: Comerica ShredSite. Located inside select Comerica Bank locations across North Texas, ShredSite is a free, secure shredding and recycling resource available to everyone in the community — whether you’re a Comerica customer or not.

According to IdentityTheft.org, The FTC received 1.4 million identity theft reports in 2023, with someone falling victim every 22 seconds. With the rise of more sophisticated methods of committing identity fraud, studies suggest the threat will only increase.

And for small business owners, protecting sensitive documents is more than a compliance initiative — it’s simply smart business. Consumers expect companies to protect their private information, with 79% of respondents saying that businesses must do this to earn their trust, according to a survey from PwC. Offering ShredSite is just one of the many ways that Comerica delivers on its commitment to providing valuable resources to small businesses in its communities.

With 19 locations across D-FW and more to come, ShredSite is a free, self-serve document disposal service. Small business owners and others can drop confidential documents into the secure box and leave with the confidence that the files will be shredded and recycled.

Steve Joyce, a Comerica customer who regularly visits a ShredSite in Frisco, uses the service to dispose of outdated business documents. Instead of his previous process of hand shredding documents at home, Joyce saves time by driving to the site and dropping the documents off for safe disposal. “I can park right outside the entrance and bring the documents into the ShredSite,” he says. “It is quick and easy.”

Comerica partners with Iron Mountain, a trusted information management provider, to destroy and recycle documents securely. It’s simple and convenient — and you can free up some home and office space, too, instead of storing masses of paperwork indefinitely.

Not sure what constitutes a sensitive document? Here are some examples of items you should be shredding to maintain security:

  • Utility invoices and receipts
  • Bank statements
  • Voided or canceled checks
  • Medical records
  • Credit card offers
  • Old tax documents
  • Any documents with your SSN or other sensitive information

The program gives small businesses a chance to be environmentally conscious, too. According to Iron Mountain, shredding and recycling 10 tons of paper can save 240 trees. Since the 2023 launch of the service, 250 tons of paper have been shredded. By that math, that’s roughly 6,000 trees saved. Disposing of documents at a ShredSite enables companies to cut back on the waste they send to landfills.
