Girls basketball playoffs: Skyline needs big fourth quarter to beat Summit; Trimble Tech stuns state-ranked L.D. Bell

Skyline is ranked No. 7 in the state in Class 6A, but it was in danger of making a first-round playoff exit Monday night.

Mansfield Summit, the No. 3 seed from District 7-6A, took a 45-44 lead into the fourth quarter. Then Skyline's offense took over.

Skyline closed the game on a 31-11 run to pull away for a 75-56 victory at Ellis Davis Field House. Jazion Jackson, Zyniah Thomas and Jessica Cornelius combined for 29 points in the fourth quarter and for 58 points in the game as Skyline (24-8) advanced to play Denton Guyer.

Jackson finished with a game-high 24 points and Thomas added 20. Tommisha Lampkin scored 19 points for Summit (21-12), which was a regional finalist in 5A last season before moving up to 6A in realignment.

Fort Worth Trimble Tech 63, Hurst L.D. Bell 48: Amyah Johnson scored 13 points to lead District 4-6A No. 4 seed Trimble Tech to a shocking first-round win over District 3-6A champion L.D. Bell, ranked No. 24 in the state.

Four-star recruit Myra Gordon scored a game-high 24 points for L.D. Bell (30-4). She entered the game leading the Dallas area in scoring at 27.4 points per game.

The Colony 57, Colleyville Heritage 53: District 8-5A champion The Colony ended the game on an 8-0 run to rally for a first-round playoff win.

Jewel Spear tied the score with a four-point play with about a minute remaining, then Tamia Jones gave The Colony the lead with a steal and layup. Spear finished with 25 points and Jones added 22 for The Colony (25-9), which moved on to play Crowley in the second round at 7 p.m. Friday at Trophy Club Byron Nelson.

Plano 64, Garland Lakeview 43: The final score won't reflect it, but defending Class 6A state champion Plano was tested for much of its first-round playoff game. Going into the fourth quarter, Garland Lakeview was within six.

That's where the drama ended, as Plano outscored Lakeview 21-6 in the fourth quarter. Five-star recruit Jordyn Merritt, SportsDay's reigning All-Area Player of the Year, had 20 points and Zaria Collins added 19 points for Plano.

Plano (27-5), the No. 3 seed from District 9-6A, advanced to play the winner of Tuesday's Rockwall vs. Killeen game. Plano trailed 14-13 after one quarter and led just 25-22 at halftime.

Argyle 61, Godley 27: Argyle's bid for a fifth consecutive Class 4A state championship got off to a strong start as Rhyle McKinney scored 26 points. McKinney has averaged 29 points over the last four games.

Mansfield Timberview 89, Fort Worth Eastern Hills 24: The state's top-ranked 5A team led 29-6 after one quarter and had no trouble extending its winning streak to 26 games. N'Denasija Collins scored 16 of her game-high 17 points in the first half to pace four players in double figures for Timberview (35-1), the state runner-up the last two seasons.

Lincoln 75, Celina 29: Diamond Sweats scored 23 points as the state's fourth-ranked 4A team extended its winning streak to 20.

Allen 66, Wylie 16: Eleven players scored for District 9-6A champion Allen, paced by 13 points from Tyler Jackson. Allen (29-6) will play Harker Heights or Tyler Lee in the second round.

Frisco Liberty 40, McKinney North 12: Liberty outscored McKinney North 33-3 in the first half, including 16-0 in the second quarter. Liberty (27-10), ranked No. 10 in the state in 5A, will await the winner of Tuesday's South Oak Cliff vs. Carrollton Newman Smith game.

Wylie East 51, Frisco Memorial 39: The state's 24th-ranked 5A team got 13 points from Mary Nyakundi and 12 points from Akasha Davis. Wylie East (23-10) led by just four entering the fourth quarter before pulling away.

Highland Park 74, Adamson 33: Ella Patterson scored 14 of her team-high 22 points in the first quarter as District 11-5A champion Highland Park opened the game on a 24-4 run.

Highland Park (20-10) advanced to play Frisco Centennial. Ashley Gonzalez scored 23 of Adamson's 25 points through three quarters and finished with a game-high 27.

Frisco Centennial 61, Denison 37: Leila Patel and Cassidy Melton combined for 29 points in Centennial's win over District 10-5A runner-up Denison.

Denton Guyer 54, Flower Mound Marcus 34: Alisa Williams scored 16 points to pace three Guyer players in double figures.

Hebron 34, Keller 31: Daxia Melton scored a team-high 12 points to lead Hebron (29-5) past District 5-6A No. 2 seed Keller (22-11). Hebron moved on to play the winner of Tuesday's game between 10-time state champion Duncanville and South Grand Prairie.

Grapevine 46, Denton 42: Dasha Macmillan scored a team-high 21 points and Symone Wesley and Samantha Tatum added 11 each as Grapevine rallied to beat Denton. Grapevine outscored Denton 27-18 in the second half to overcome a 26-point game by Denton's Ky'lie Scott.

Seagoville 49, Woodrow Wilson 38: After being held to four points in the first quarter, Seagoville outscored District 11-5A No. 2 seed Woodrow Wilson 13-1 in the second quarter en route to a first-round win. Markayla Williams led Seagoville with 19 points.
